German Stollen (Christmas Bread)

Mix:
3 cups warm water
1/2 cup sugar
3 Tbsp yeast

Let yeast work for five minutes.

Add:
4 beaten eggs
3 tsp salt
4 Tbsp oil
9 cups flour

Knead in bread machine for 10 minutes.

Divide dough into 5 portions. Then divide each piece into 3 portions. Roll each piece out to fit a pie pan. Put first circle in pan and spread with melted butter. Sprinkle on nut mixture.

Nut mixture:
1 1/2 cups chopped nuts
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 tsp maple flavoring
4 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Stack 3 layers this way. Stack 3 layers this way. Put a cup in the center and press down slightly. Cut 12 pieces and twist. Rise until double in size. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 18-20 minutes.

**Okay, I don't get this AT ALL... my friend Deanna M. made this delicious Christmas Bread for a homeaking meeting years ago and we all received copies of the recipe. I suppose if you are talented, you can figure out how to make this nice and cute, but I'm not that talented, so I'm terrified to try it (not to mention that my husband is allergic to nuts anyway, and I bet it's not the same without them).
